(named after its rapid escape from rocks while basking in the sun) is mostly aquatic, sometimes leaving water to bask in the sun or to lay eggs.
Body lengths - Females: 10-12 in (25-30 cm), Males: 8-10 in (20-25 cm). They do not produce saliva and just like most aquatic turtles,
must eat their food in water.
Egg laying (2-30 eggs): May - early July, hatching: 60-90 days thereafter. Babies cut open their
egg shells with an egg tooth which falls out an hour after hatching.
