Independence Pass: elevation 12,095 ft

Independence Pass is almost the highest through-road in the world... but part of Rocky Mountain National Park road gets that honor.

Open from May to November, many people stop at the top for Walkway views from the top. Road from Aspen has more fall Aspen scenery, and Road from Twin Lakes has no road rail in parts, which can be a little scary while driving down a one-lane-each road.
