American Avocets have a unique elegant profile. Winter plumage: white head, neck and breast. Breeding plumage: orange head, neck and breast. Females are slightly smaller, with a shorter and more curved bill. Their call is a repeated high-pitched "kleek".
American Avocet chicks leave the nest within 24 hours after hatching, and can right way walk, swim, and even dive.
